Beginning counselling doesn't require you to have everything worked out.
Some people come to counselling with an understanding of what's been troubling you and a clear focus in mind. Others simply know that life feels difficult, they may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious or disconnected from themselves but aren't yet sure why. Wherever you find yourself, we can begin there.
My role is not to offer quick answers or tell you what to do. Instead, I offer a thoughtful, compassionate and confidential space where we can slow things down together, explore what matters most to you, and begin to make sense of your experiences.
Understanding ourselves with curiosity and compassion, rather than self-criticism, allows new possibilities to begin to emerge. Counselling with me isn't about finding quick answers or becoming someone different. It's about creating the space to reflect, make sense of what feels difficult, and discover what feels right for you as you become more authentically yourself.
My practice is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches according to your individual needs.
Psychodynamic thinking is an important part of my approach, helping us explore how past experiences, relationships and patterns outside our awareness may continue to influence the way you feel, think and relate in the present. Alongside this, I draw on other models and approaches, tailoring our work to what feels most helpful for you rather than following a set formula.
At the heart of my approach is the belief that greater self-awareness, compassion and understanding can open up new possibilities for meaningful change.
Every person's story is unique, and so is every therapeutic relationship.
I believe counselling works best when you feel genuinely listened to, understood and accepted without judgement, while also feeling safe and supported to explore aspects of yourself or your experiences that may be difficult to face alone.
Sometimes I may gently invite you to reflect on patterns, beliefs or ways of relating that may no longer serve you. My intention is not to judge or direct you, but to deepen the exploration, your understanding of self and experiences and support the changes you hope to make. Trust develops over time, and we will work collaboratively at a pace that feels right for you.
Some sessions may focus on the challenges you're facing today. Others may gently explore earlier experiences, memories or relationships that continue to influence how you think, feel and relate to yourself, to others and to the world around you.
There is no set agenda. Our sessions are guided by what feels most important to you and there is no expectation that you should know exactly what to say each week. We simply begin with whatever feels most present in that moment.
Often, the ways we respond to life's challenges develop gradually over time, shaped by our experiences, relationships and, for many of us, our early years.
You may notice certain patterns in the way you think, feel or relate to yourself and others in certain situations or when life’s challenges occur, or find yourself responding in ways that surprise or confuse you, without always understanding where they come from. Often, these ways of coping developed for understandable reasons, even if they no longer serve us in the present.
Together, we can become curious about these patterns—not to judge, shame or blame, but to understand them with compassion and acceptance. As these patterns become clearer, you may find greater freedom in how you respond to yourself, to others and to the choices before you.
Counselling isn't about becoming a different person. It's about creating space to discover yourself more fully, so you can respond to life's challenges in ways that feel more authentic and meaningful and aligned with who you are.
A space to pause and breathe in the midst of life's demands
A place to speak openly without fear of judgement, to reflect on what has been difficult to carry alone, and to discover strengths or perspectives that may have been difficult to see.
A gradual process of exploration, where we work at a pace that feels manageable and respectful of your individual journey. There is no expectation that change should happen quickly or that you should have all the answers. Instead, we allow space for compassionate understanding to develop, trusting that meaningful change often begins there.
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a significant step, particularly if this is your first experience of therapy.
